2009 Inaugural Business Icon Victoria Winner
Luba Grigorovitch
“Being part of Victorian Business Icon 2009 exceeded my expectations. My fellow contestants had brilliant minds and it felt wonderful being part of such an impressive, high powered group of tomorrow’s leaders. The judges were sensational; the knowledge they had and willingly shared with us was amazing. The extra focus and strength I now draw on has surfaced because of the increased confidence I have gained since winning Victorian Business Icon 2009.
Whilst I previously knew it, until the Business Icon competition I never fully appreciated that anything is possible if one strives for the best and is prepared to chase the things they want! The challenges we were given during the competition were incredible and truly tested us as individuals.
I actually work for the Department of Transport as an Event & Sponsorship Coordinator and am an elected Councillor for the City of Hobsons Bay however, since word of the competition spread, I have been offered jobs in HR, Public Relations and Marketing with other companies. I am not yet 25 years old but now, thanks to Icon will no longer let that hold me back. With my new extra confidence, despite my age, I recently ran for ALP pre-selection to be their candidate in a State Seat By-election. I narrowly lost to the only other person “left standing” and am not deterred, if anything it proved I am ready to forge forward. I now know I can mix it with the best regardless of my age and I am prepared to follow my dreams and make them happen.
Business Icon competition is one which I will never forget. I spent 4 years completing a double degree at University, but in the 8 days of the competition I feel I learnt so many other things that are desperately needed and important in the business world. Business Icon t tests your mind and pushes it to its limits. I now realise that the competition wasn’t about winning, it is about the opportunities that come from it, the networking and all that you learn. I encourage as many young people as possible to get involved because everyone who enters the competition will come out of it a winner!”
